Are you aware that itis both easy and inexpensive to do access control with the Elk M1? The Elk M1KAM module allowsall connections to be made right at the door being controlled except for asingle 4 conductor cable (or probably better yet a Cat 5 or 6 cable) to connectthe unit to the M1 itself.

Welcome 2012, last year we wondered how 2011 would go and I must say it was a decent year.

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of our Company, we did go through 1 or 2 business model changes over the early part of that decade however we are now and will always be the Distributor to the Integrator.

Look for a few new products this year to choose from and for items that help you do a better job. We are a partner on many levels which sets us apart from the big guys.

Integration is our game, after a slow Summer we experienced an extremely busy Fall. So today I am taking a break and updating the Blog. If you are new to AV LV we offer CCTV, Security, Automation, Lighting Control and advice to Professional Low Voltage Integrators. New technolgy is being added all the time so check in from time to time.

With a small but loyal (you know who you are) group of Dealer/Installers, AV LV is always ready to help you with a system that also allows you to have a life too. We will only carry better than average equipment with a low rate of return. Sometimes it may cost a little more however there are fewer problems when you buy quality products for your clients. When that happens your weekends are once again, yours to enjoy!

Well we promised more Blogs, then things got busy again...
News this week, it's a little early to give any details however we have tried to set up training for the Boston Dealers and now have a date. May 25 in Marlboro MA, by next week we will know more. The goal is to offer both ELK and PCS in one day This will probably be a first so stay tuned.

For those of you who just had the ELK training we are passing out the forms for your dealer equipment any day now, look for an e-mail this week.

We are also offering some GEN 1 PCS Lighting at very good prices, if you have a legacy system that needs an upgrade or want to put some in your own house this is a good way to do so.

February 15th, 2011 - Press Release from PCS Lighting Control. PCS will be shipping a new Home Automation System that compliments the Lighting Control by mid-March, 2011. Mi Lightstyle is a simple plug-n-play device that is easy to set up and simple to use. This is the the product you have been waiting for. Once it becomes available AV LV will be sending out more details on price, performance and where it fits in to the Integrators tool kit. Stay tuned...

With the Labor Day weekend approaching most of us are shifting gears once again. At AV LV we have worked out a few new items over the last month and realized we have not made any new updates lately.
So the news is, the PCS Lighting Control Training will be at Centra-Larm in Manchester November 12th. The sign-up sheet will be posted on the web site this week. Please read the details on the form and lock in your seat for this rare training event. The other news is that we will be working with ELK. This Security and Automation line recently partnered with PCS Lighting and we feel it is a great fit for AV LV as well. There will be a couple more announcements over the next few months as well,so check in from time to time.

Sell new technology to past customers

Wow, how do you do that? Those customers were completed months or years ago.
Well if they are tech savvy like we are, they were thinking about the next "thing" while you were there putting in the current system.
Here is what we suggest, drop them a line, either a call or an e-mail and say " we now carry_________, are you interested?" If they are then take a look at our Wifi, Lighting Control or CCTV lines and fill in the blank.

With Wifi we suggest asking if they have wifi everywhere they need it including the yard or parking lot. If not OMNI-WiFi offers 6 to 10K of coverage (for a business suggest the dual SSID for public and private networks).

With Lighting Control, be cautious because of the economy most people will not spring for an entire makeover. We suggest the PCS Lighting 4 room kit to start with at a package price. Once your customer uses this they will want to add more as time and money allow. We know this because we are saving to add more swithes here!

CCTV is also pricy but more and more are considering it a necessity. Once again try place a 4 camera solution or even just one of Hunt's new H.264 IP Cams to see what your customer thinks.

We hope these ideas have helped, as our economy rebounds here and there you may be surprised to learn that some of your past clients really do need you to call them, good luck and if all goes well, give us a call...

Today's announcement was a surprise. PCS and Savant have a partner agreement. Once we thought about this it occured to us that this should not really be that surprising.

AV LV was the first to represent this product in New England and we still believe this is the best lighting control on the market. The choice Savant made this week by partnering with PCS Lighting Control is just further proof. To learn more just drop us a line or give us a call. We can tell you more about the new RF products and the new 6 button controller that can handle a load. It just keep getting better.

New Media Device

We are in the process of bringing in a new Media device. Let us know if this is an item you are looking to sell or currently sell. The best feature of this system is the ability to have a second unit in a second home for example that can access all the media from the main Home. For many people this can be huge, how often can you duplicate your media in more than one location? Send us your comments we really would like to know what you think.

Have you settled on what to call the new year, as you can read I have my preference. Now that this is out can I ask "What are you going to do to make you more money in twenty ten?"
If the answer is the same thing you did last year then it easy to predict the results. Economic factors certainly did play a roll in all of individual economies over the last year. The business climate does feel like it is working better so far this year. The point is do you carry what people want or do you offer them what you want to sell?
I often marvel at the products that do really well. Often it is because they are marketed heavily and have a name that you know. They often perform as well as the unknown products but cost much more.
Now the question is how do you convince people to buy products like AV LV provides to Integrators? They cost less, perform as well and more often than not are better than the leading lines, the difference is your customers do not have to pay for all that marketing to get what they want.
One way to do this is to have a demo piece of equipment available or use this equipment yourself in an office or showroom. For example our newest CCTV line Vivotek is digital and you can place one unit in your office and demonstrate it from anywhere with a laptop computer. Our Lighting Control Line has a great demo suitcast and an OMNI-Wifi unit speaks for it self once you set one up in a 10,000 sq. ft building and have full coverage. Ultimately it is hard to convince people of anything these days unless you have the right tools and inform them in the right manner.

This time of year we always hear the same battle cry "the customers are not buying because of the holidays!"
So how can you operate your business with these ups and downs?
First of all not everyone is holding off. The other consideration is that if they are holding back, ask if you can set up a time right after the holidays to jump start the new year. Most business decisions have to do with timing as much as the cost. If you plan for the ups and downs then it is not as debilitating. Have a summer strategy,a school vaction plan and a holiday gift offering.
If Lexus can suggest a car as a Christmas Gift then why not a Home Theater?

OK we are ready to roll now with the new AV LV web site so... how does this affect you?
1. When you are visiting a customer and he or she asks you to show them the product, just say "OK - open a browser and lets look at av-lv.com" then it's a piece of cake to show a dome camera or a 6 button lighting control switch, on the spot. You no longer need to say "let me get back to you on that".
2. You need info on a product after hours.
3. No need to go to 3 or 4 web sites now for AV LV items and information.
4. This Blog - we can show case your work, send us photos and a description to sales@av-lv.com
5. Remember you can still increase business by going back to your customer base with new technology.
